By Horace Palacio: Former President Donald Trump is safe after gunshots were fired near him at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, according to a statement from his campaign.

“President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said.

A person has been detained in connection with the incident, law enforcement sources confirmed. Multiple sources reported that Secret Service agents fired at the suspect, who was believed to be armed with a long gun and had intended to target Trump.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. while Trump was playing golf. The golf course was immediately placed on lockdown, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the suspect’s motives.

The Secret Service has stated that it is working closely with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the incident. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the situation and expressed relief that Trump was unharmed. “Violence has no place in America,” Harris said on social media platform X.

Further details regarding the suspect have not yet been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
