By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes have moved the battle for the Premier League of Belize (PLB) first place against league-leading Progresso to Friday, September 20, and will play it in Benque Viejo del Carmen.
Instead of hosting the leaders on Sunday, September 22, at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio, Verdes will play the match on Independence Day eve at 8:00 pm at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen.
After claiming second place with a 3-0 win over Wagiya, Verdes are now looking to grab first place from struggling Progresso, who have lost 1-0 to San Pedro Pirates and drawn 1-1 with Bandits in their last two games.
With the battle for the top spot heating up, winning the Week 7 matches is crucial to the teams’ rankings going down the final stretch. After the upcoming weekend games, only three more matches will be left in the regular season.
This makes the Week 7 match against Progresso a must win encounter.
Moving the game to Friday, also gives the players a good break to celebrate Belize’s Independence Day.
A PLB release on Monday shows the other two games still scheduled for Independence Day and on September 22. (See Schedule)
