By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Tracy Panton and the Alliance for Democracy urged UDP delegates to “stand firm and strong.”
According to Panton, a delegate called to inform her that the person was removed from the chat group because of expressing a dissenting view.
“You have a duty to act in the best interest of all Belizeans who continue to support the party. They are depending on all of us to stay the course.
Democracy must prevail and we each have a responsibility to defend it,” Panton said.
“This is NOT the democratic way. One cannot be removed as a delegate without he/she actively resigning as a delegate or if a Constituency Convention is convened to elect new delegates. For most constituencies, these conventions are not due before November 2024. So don’t let anyone tell you that you are no longer a delegate,” Panton added.
Panton further called on UDP delegates to not “surrender to fear or to the tactics of a bully.”
Panton says that the upcoming UDP National Convention on October 20, 2024 will “be a pivotal moment in our history as a mass-political organization. We shall overcome.”
Meanwhile, the UDP has firmly said that the members of the Alliance are no longer UDP and as such cannot hold a UDP convention.
