By Aaron Humes: Concerning the death of Daniel Caal, which occurred on Thursday, September 12, a post-mortem examination was conducted on his body today Monday, September 16.

Upon conclusion, the cause of death was certified as Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), pending histological and toxicological analysis. ARDS, also called wet lung, is a type of respiratory failure characterized by the rapid onset of widespread inflammation in the lungs. Symptoms include shortness of breath (dyspnea), rapid breathing (tachypnea), and bluish skin coloration (cyanosis). ARDS impairs the lungs’ ability to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide. Severe chest injuries can cause ARDS.

The post-mortem examination cited other significant conditions contributing to his death including chronic alcoholism.

Caal was discovered dead in his cell after being detained for several days by police. Investigations continue.
