By Breaking Belize News Staff: Jermaine Erwin Garnett, also known as “Horse,” is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being charged with abetment to robbery. Garnett, who had been in prison since August on a State of Emergency (SOE) order, was formally charged today after being handed over to the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
The charge stems from a robbery on August 21, 2024, on Central American Boulevard in Belize City. Garnett is accused of aiding 24-year-old Tyrese Usher in the robbery of truck driver Daniel Garcia, who was held at gunpoint by two men. The robbers escaped with $8,000 in cash and a $25,000 cheque from Twins Supermarket.
Garnett, who claims he works with the LIU Program cleaning city streets, pleaded not guilty to the abetment charge. He denied knowing about the robbery, stating, “I only lend out my cycle, I neva know anyone gaan commit any crime.”
Despite his plea, the Magistrate denied bail, citing the severity of the crime, the use of a firearm, and the rise in robberies. Garnett will remain in custody until November 7, 2024, while the court considers bail at his next appearance.
Usher, who was first charged with robbery on August 26, 2024, also remains in custody until his next court appearance on September 30, 2024.
