By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize defeated El Salvador 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-22), totalling 14 points and surpassing Guatemala to clinch the bronze medal at the first-ever Central American U17 Women’s Championship in Managua, Nicaragua on Saturday. The regional tournament was organized by the Association of Central American Volleyball Federations (AFECAVOL).
Belize’s win over El Salvador propelled them to a 3-2 record and 14 points, but the bronze medal wasn’t confirmed until Nicaragua defeated Guatemala 3-1 (25-18, 15-25, 25-14, 25-17) in the final game of the day. Guatemala finished fourth with a 2-3 record and 13 points.
Costa Rica, who beat Honduras 3-1 (25-15, 25-20, 20-25, 25-16) in the second game, claimed the championship undefeated with a 5-0 record and 21 points.
Nicaragua finished second with a 4-1 record and 19 points.
El Salvador completed the tournament with one win and four losses for four points, placing fifth. Honduras finished sixth with a 0-5 record and four points.

Marin and Akili Jones led Belize with 14 points apiece while Katya Cunza scored six points for El Salvador.
Belize was better across the board, besting El Salvador 35-21 in attacks, 2-0 in blocks, 13-4 in serving aces, and committing one less unforced error (24-25).
Belize also raked in six individual awards, with Akili Jones grabbing the Best Server, Best Scorer, and 2nd Best Attacker awards; libero Dasialynn Thurton claiming the Best Libero and Best Defender trophies; and Emaun Marin taking the Best Attacker title.
