Belize to participate in IOSCO’s World Investor Week

By Horace Palacio: Belize is gearing up to participate in the 8th edition of World Investor Week (WIW), a global initiative organized by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). The Financial Services Commission of Belize (FSC), the country’s regulatory authority for non-bank financial services, will represent Belize in this international endeavor.

IOSCO, the leading global standard-setter for securities markets regulation, plays a crucial role in developing and promoting adherence to internationally recognized financial market regulation standards.

“Our recent associate membership with IOSCO underscores our commitment to fostering a financial environment that champions investor education and protection,” stated Claude Haylock, Director General of the FSC. “In an era marked by rapid advancements in AI, virtual assets, and other groundbreaking technologies, investor education and protection are more vital than ever.”

WIW 2024, a collaborative effort involving over 100 jurisdictions worldwide, aims to empower investors through education and protection. The week will shed light on critical issues impacting investors today, including technology & digital finance, crypto assets, sustainable finance, fraud and scam prevention, investor resilience, and the fundamentals of investing.

“We urge all investors, both experienced and novice, to actively engage in WIW events and leverage the wealth of resources available,” remarked Haylock. “The knowledge acquired will prove invaluable in navigating the complexities of today’s dynamic financial landscape.”

World Investor Week is scheduled to take place from October 7th to 12th.
