By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 20-year-old San Pedro resident, Ivo Gotay, was convicted on Thursday in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for wounding a local salesman. Gotay, a laborer from Boca Del Río Area, pleaded guilty to injuring Ilequel Ottoniel Aguilar during an altercation on September 30, 2024, in San Pedro.
Gotay admitted to hitting Aguilar with a pint bottle, claiming it was in retaliation after Aguilar allegedly threw a stone at him and had a history of bullying him. Aguilar sustained a cut behind his ear during the incident, which occurred on Laguna Drive.
Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegodapola imposed a non-custodial sentence, fining Gotay $600 plus a $5 court cost. He has until November 4, 2024, to pay the fine or face six months in prison.
