By Horace Palacio: Residents of Belize can expect a mix of sunshine and showers today as relatively moist and unstable conditions persist across the country. The National Meteorological Service of Belize has issued a general forecast predicting sunny spells with cloudy periods, followed by increased chances of showers and thunderstorms, particularly in inland areas this afternoon.

While the coast will see predominantly sunny skies with isolated showers, inland areas should prepare for a few showers and isolated thunderstorms developing this afternoon. Tonight, the shower activity is expected to shift towards the south and some coastal areas, with skies becoming partly cloudy to cloudy at times.

Temperatures will vary across the country, with highs of 90°F (32°C) along the coast and 94°F (34°C) inland. The hills will offer a cooler respite with temperatures reaching 80°F (27°C).

Meanwhile, in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Leslie and Hurricane Kirk are being closely monitored. At 3:00 AM local time, Tropical Storm Leslie was located approximately 645 miles west-southwest of the Southernmost Cabo Verde Islands, moving west at 6 mph with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph.

Hurricane Kirk, significantly stronger with maximum sustained winds of 145 mph, was situated about 1010 miles east-northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands, moving northwest at 10 mph.

While neither storm currently poses a direct threat to Belize, the National Meteorological Service will continue to monitor their progress and provide updates.

The forecast for Saturday and Saturday night predicts cloudy spells with isolated showers and thunderstorms, with a higher likelihood of precipitation in inland areas during the afternoon and in the south at night.

Mariners can expect east-southeasterly winds blowing at 5-10 knots, resulting in slight sea conditions with waves reaching 1-3 feet.

Residents are advised to stay tuned to the National Meteorological Service of Belize for further weather updates and any potential advisories related to the tropical storms.
