By BBN Staff:  The European Union has provided 50,000 Euros, or a little over US $55,000 to Belize to assist the Belize Red Cross in providing relief to about 440 families who have been severely affected by the passing of Hurricane Earl last week.Cayo 07

These would include “access to safe water, sanitation services and hygiene promotion, reduction of risks for vector and waterborne diseases, non-food items and livelihood asset replacements for the most vulnerable families,” reports the Curacao Chronicle.

The monetary gift to Belize is part of the EU’s overall contribution to the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

The relief efforts are still underway as families continue to recover from the devastation sustained by the storm, some of who have lost everything to the hurricane’s winds or subsequent flooding.
