5. MURDER

By Aaron Humes:  A bar in the vicinity of Buena Vista on the road to Spanish Lookout has seen its second death in three months after a murder in which two weapons were used.

Police have confirmed that around 5:00 a.m. a man identified as 37 year old Hever Miranda of Duck Run 2 village was chopped to the head and shot to the chest during an altercation with another man.

This afternoon San Ignacio police told us that the incident actually started around the corner in Unitedville, where 4 men were socializing.

Apparently there was a misunderstanding among the group over a female; as a result the female left with the deceased to go to La Pasadita Bar on the Iguana Creek Road leading to Spanish Lookout.

They were drinking there when the same group with whom they had previously been socializing arrived and the argument resumed. This was when Miranda was fatally chopped and shot.

Police have recovered the machete used in the incident and detained a total of four persons, including the man they believed committed the murder. Investigations continue at this time but police believe they have strong evidence against one of the accused.

In May of this year 59 year old Jose Anibal Molina Estrada, a businessman originally from Selena Village but residing in Duck Run 3, visited La Pasadita Bar to drink and met up with 64-year-old Guillermo Guerra; 52-year-old Victor Ismael Perez; and Eddy Larios, age not given. It appears there was an exchange of words which led to Molina Estrada taking out his licensed 9-millimeter weapon and firing at the trio. Larios responded by taking out his 9-millimeter weapon, also licensed, and returning fire, fatally wounding Molina Estrada to the back and side. He died on the scene. Guerra was injured to the left foot; Perez to the stomach; and Larios, the most serious, to the right shoulder, stomach and hip. It is believed that that incident stemmed from a long-standing personal feud.
