By BBN Staff: Belizean student Janae Elisha Rodriguez has won herself first place in the junior division in the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Foundation Children’s Essay Competition.
The competition invited students from Latin America and the Caribbean to write about what they would like to see and do in their country as a cruise passenger. Students from 21 countries submitted their essays in the junior and senior categories.
The winners were announced on Monday of this week. Rodriguez and her school will receive US$3, 000 academic scholarships.
First place in the senior division was captured by Jacinth Hunkins from St. Maarten. Hunkins and his school will receive the same prize.
FCCA president Michele Paige is quoted as saying that “There is nothing more fulfilling than helping children…The Essay Competition is particularly special because it directly benefits children’s futures and encourages them to continue striving in their scholastic endeavours, while helping their schools develop more exceptional students.”
In second place in the junior division is Danny Kish from Cayman Island. Hailey Morris from St. Kitts took second prize the senior division. Both winners and their schools will receive US$1,500 scholarships.
Jordan Fleming from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands got third place in the junior division and Alanis Matos Plá from Puerto Rico in the senior division. They and their schools will receive US$1,000 scholarships.
All winners will receive their prizes at the FCCA Caribbean Cruise Conference & Trade Show Opening Ceremony in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Tuesday, September 26, 2016.
