By Aaron Humes: 23 year old Justin Arnold of Sandhill village has been accused of domestic assault on his partner; however, the accuser is a male 16 years older than him and they have been in a committed relationship for six months.
It comes after last week Wednesday’s landmark decision by Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin to remove criminal sanctions from partners consenting to sexual acts “against the order of nature” in private, save for acts involving minors.
According to 39 year old Noel Garcia, on Wednesday at about 9 p.m. at the residence they share on North Front Street, Arnold asked him to assist with taking down a door, but Garcia said he was tired.
An annoyed Arnold threatened to “deal with him later,” and slapped him on the left side of his face.
The older man said he feared for his life and decided to report the matter to police and request court action against his partner.
Arnold pleaded not guilty to a charge of common assault before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza and was offered bail of 500 dollars; however, he was not able to meet it and has been remanded to the Central Prison until his next court appearance.
