By BBN Staff: BBN received reports yesterday that $47,000 is missing from the Hopkins Village Council.
BBN contacted village chairman Ted McKoy who said that no money is missing and that the reports are just mischief being created by the previous council.
“The previous council was making the argument that they handed over that amount when in fact that was a new payment for the new fiscal year. They spent in excess of $90,000 during their 3 years in office and left no receipts for us to look at. You know me, I am no thief,” McKoy told BBN.
“Nobody has said that money is missing – they are only saying that we have it,” McKoy further added.
Asked if he intends to perform an audit of the village finances, Mckoy said that he wants an audit on the account that shows spending for the past 3 years since the last council burnt their receipts and spent over $90,000 with nothing to show.
“I was elected because people in my community want to see transparency and true change”, Mckoy said. “And I will ensure I deliver results for my people.”
Mckoy, 29, is Hopkins’ youngest chairman to date. He and his team won the UDP slate in June 2016.
