By Aaron Humes: Far from his previous comment that he will not lose any sleep over the Auditor General’s report on Immigration, Tourism Minister Manuel Heredia Jr. must now explain how it is he cultivated what the report calls “a special connection” with the Lebanese Honorary Consul in Belize, Khodr Harmouch, which allowed his family members to obtain Belizean nationality and otherwise smoothing applications.
Heredia calls his earlier comments a misunderstanding; he thought it was a reference to visa recommendations but still insists he has done nothing wrong; he only recommended for nationality and visa applications.
Heredia denies any special friendships with the Harmouch family and maintains that he did not direct or instruct anyone to override regulations.
More importantly, he called the Auditor General “out of order” for failing to consult with him on the allegations – and says he is seeking legal advice.
