By BBN Staff: As the countdown begins to the first major weekend of the September Celebrations, spare a thought for the men and women in khaki, white and blue.

The Police Department will be working overtime and then some to regulate the excesses of alcohol, sex, and violence.

According to ACP Chester Williams, September and December are one-two for the highest times of stress for police during the year because they are times of festivity.

On this coming holiday weekend alone there is the Citizens Parade and multiple concerts while next weekend features J’ouvert and Carnival, forcing officers to work 36 hours to keep the peace across the country and especially in the Old Capital.

How can you help? For a start, no consuming alcohol in glasses, bottles or cans, which easily become weapons during fights. There will be no arrests but police will confiscate any alcohol not found in paper, foam or plastic containers.
According to Williams, “Last year we took away a truck back full of beers in cans and in bottles and we’ll be doing the same this year.”
