By Zoila Palma: A new documentary to air on Showtime network on September 24 will chronicle multi-millionaire anti-virus developer John McAfee’s colorful years in Belize leading up to the murder of his neighbor Gregory Faull and his subsequent “escape” from the country.
Based on the accounts told by his “friends” in Belize, the documentary tells of his erratic lifestyle during his time living in Belize. The documentary will feature personal accounts of those who knew him, including his workers, friends and associates in Belize.
The new documentary is called “ Gringo: The Dangerous life of John McAfee”. It is directed and produced by the Oscar-nominated filmmaker Nanette Burstein.
The documentary will reportedly reveal new information regarding the murder of American expat Greg Faull.
The documentary’s producer did several interviews with employees, gangsters and several of McAfee teenage girlfriends.
McAfee’s former employee, biologist, Allison Adonizio, tells Burstein in the documentary that McAfee increasingly alarming behavior made her decide to walk out on their professional partnership. “He talked about taking over the Belize government, referred to men as hitmen,” she said. “He would talk about how he could have people hurt or killed, and honestly I was scared.”
The online article promoting the debut of this documentary states that the recollections of those closest to McAfee recognized him to be a generous but paranoid benefactor who surrounded himself with heavily armed bodyguards.
McAfee is famous for posing for pictures with guns and girls in bikinis. A former masseuse of his stated: “He was Belize’s Donald Trump.”
The documentary premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last Sunday.
