By Aaron Humes: This morning William “Danny” Mason and four others accused of murder, kidnapping, and conspiracy to commit murder and kidnapping reappeared in Belize City Magistrate’s Court before Chief Magistrate Ann-Marie Smith.
Disclosure was scheduled to be given but this has been delayed to November 9th, to give DPP Cheryl Lynn Vidal time to peruse the file, which she was handed just this past Friday.
In court, ACP Chester Williams, acting as prosecutor, requested the Chief Magistrate to adjourn the case with no objection from the defense -Herbert Panton; Dickie Bradley and Oscar Selgado; however, they asked for time to reply to his submissions that the matters be heard as one and that they be heard in Belize City.
According to Williams, kidnapping and conspiracy are transitory crimes, though one can still be kidnapped if held in a different place in the same jurisdiction. The alleged murder of pastor Llewellyn Lucas and kidnapping of both Lucas and David Dodd happened at Mason’s ranch at Mile 31 George Price Highway but related events took place at the Intelco Hill residence in Belmopan. Williams argues that the court will save time and resources by hearing the matters here.
The Chief Magistrate is to respond following written submissions due by September 30th.
