By BBN Staff: Tropical storm Matthew is the 13th named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane Season.
It is projected to strengthen to a hurricane, posing threats to part of the Caribbean.
At noon today, Matthew was centered near 13.6N latitude 61.3W longitude or about 25 miles southwest of St. Lucia. Matthew was moving westward at 20 mph with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph.
Matthew is producing locally heavy rain and strong winds in parts of the Lesser Antilles.
Tropical storm warnings have been issued for parts of the Lesser Antilles, including Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Lucia, Dominica, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadine Islands.
It is expected that Matthew will threaten parts of the Caribbean Sea as a hurricane this weekend or early next week.
