By BBN Staff: PM Barrow announced at his press conference this evening following his meeting with the Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU) that he will sign the process to commence the 13th Senator SI Constitutional Amendment by next week Thursday but it will come into effect until three months time.
He mentioned that the BNTU is still concerned about the composition of the Senate Select Committee and believes that government having 2 Senators in the Committee will not interfere with the ability of the group to do its job impartially and thoroughly.
In regards to an international investigation in connection to the beheading of Pastor Lucas and some Ministers of government relationship with Danny Mason, he said that he sees no difficulty in trying to sort external assistance for the investigation.
PM Barrow also said that the Institute of Chartered Accountants is getting a list of 5 names of chartered accountants that are willing to serve in the Integrity Commission and the process should be in place by November, 14, 2016.
The PM also mentioned that the OSH bill will be handled through the National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) and the business community.
For the Public Accounts Committee, he said that a joint standing committee will be formed that will consist of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in which the Attorney General will come up with the necessary changes.
Speaking about the meeting with PM Barrow, Luke Palacio, the president of the BNTU said that the PM is ingenious and some of the issues that he spoke about at the press briefing, they didn’t agree on.
Palacio also said that the BNTU is not satisfied with the outcome of the meeting with the Prime Minister and as a result the strike will continue tomorrow.
