By BBN Staff: A memo was issued today by the Ministry of Education to all General Managers of Government and Government-Aided Primary Schools, Board of Managements and Principals of Government and Government-Aided Secondary Schools, and Boards and Deans of Government-Aided Junior Colleges explaining the guideline that will be used to deduct the strike days from teachers’ salaries.
The memo state that the deduction of 11 days that teachers participated in strike action must be done in one payment.
The memo also gives an example on how to calculate the deduction.
For example, if a teacher’s salary is $2481.00 for the month and he/she was absent during the period of October 3- 14, 2016 (11 days, including Saturday and Sunday and excluding October 10 which was a holiday), the deduction should be calculated as follows:
2481/31 days= $80.03 x 11 days = $ 880.35
The teacher’s salary deduction would then be $880.35 for 11 strike days.
The memo also state that the deadline for submission of revised pay sheets has been extended to 4:30 p.m., tomorrow, October 21, 2016.
