By BBN Staff: Nedal McLaren, the BPP’s candidate in Port Loyola during the November 2015 general election, had his day in court yesterday.

However, it was not to challenge the constituency’s voter’s list as we saw his PUP rival in the area do yesterday.

Instead the 56-year-old politician and activist, was hauled off to court like a common thug to answer to a charge of possession of a controlled drug.

He appeared unrepresented in front of Magistrate Deborah Rogers where he pleaded not guilty.

He was offered bail in the sum of $600 plus one surety of the same amount, which he was able to meet.

According to police reports, McLaren was heading to Belize City when he pulled up to a checkpoint conducted by the Mobile Interdiction Team in Sand Hill Village.

McLaren who was driving a black, four-door Ford Explorer was asked to produce his drivers license.

However, upon lowering his window officer reported that they were struck by the smell of marijuana.

McLaren then reportedly withdrew a plastic bag containing what appeared to be marijuana from the seam of his underpants.

He was escorted to the Ladyville Police Station where he was charged.

In court McLaren denied giving the officers the weed and further alleged that he was being set up.

McLaren now joins his colleagues Raymond Rivers, Perry Smith and Geovanni Brackett who have all been charged for other offenses since last month.
