By BBN Staff: Last week, a total of 35 new wheelchairs was donated by the International Wheelchair Foundation based in California.
They were distributed on Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker to 33 individuals and two organizations.
The San Pedro Lions Club and the San Pedro Community Health Worker each received a wheelchair to aid in their work serving temporarily injured San Pedranos.
The San Pedro Branch of the Belize Red Cross partnered with the International Wheelchair Foundation in identifying needy individuals.
The Wheelchair Foundation also gave an additional 10 wheelchairs to the islands after more needy people came forward.
The San Pedro Branch of the Red Cross wishes to thank all those who made the distribution of wheelchairs a success.
They are grateful to the volunteers and donors of the International Wheelchair Foundation who donated and shipped the chairs to Belize.
The Foundation shipped a container load of 260 wheelchairs to Belize for the December UnBelizeable II country-wide distribution.
The following volunteers and donors from the Foundation spent a week in Belize aiding in the distribution of the wheelchairs: Jeff Behring, Jane Behring, David Behring, Alisa Martins, Roseann Papageorge, Glenn Perry, Tammie Perry, Brandon Perry, Colin Perry, Janelle Seeley, Kelly Patton-Statler, Steve Statler, Nina Statler, Colin Statler, Marisa Yamamoto, Kyle Yamamoto, Jake Yamamoto, Emma Yamamoto, Katie Wright, and Erica Zamora.
Singer/song writer Kelly MacGuire also performed three concerts in January and February that raised funds to support the transportation and distribution of the wheelchairs here on the islands.
They wish to thank everyone who was instrumental in making the wheel chair donation a success.
