By BBN Staff: A 24-year-old mechanic of Santa Elena Town, Trevor Jones, was today arraigned in the Belmopan magistrate’s court for one count of murder.
Jones is accused of murdering 61-year-old Paulina Urbelina Suarez of Santa Elena town on the night of December 18, 2016.
Jones had been remanded on December 23 by the powers of a Justice of the Peace.
BBN had reported that the daughter of the deceased, with whom she had a land dispute, was initially detained for questioning. However, investigators were unable to make any connection between the daughter and the alleged murderer so the daughter was released.
A source close to the family has confirmed that immediately after her release, she left the country.
There is wide speculation on social media surrounding the case since initially police and sources had indicated that the killer was of Hispanic descent.
The case was adjourned for the 23 of March, 2017.
