Tuesday, August 4th, 2015. BMG: Dangriga Police have detained one man and are seeking others for questioning in connection to yesterday morning’s alleged mob beat down between 8:30-8:45 a.m, which took the life of 34 year old Anwar Douglas Garbutt, a Belize City resident of Barrack Road.
Officers responded to the back-a-town-area of Dangriga around 9:15 a.m yesterday, August 3, after receiving reports of a man exposing his person and then being chased by several male persons.
Upon arriving at the scene on Isla Road where the chase ended, officers saw Garbutt lying face down, apparently dead, having both elbows tied to the his body with a brown belt.
Two pieces of 2X4 lumber were retrieved by officers which were used to beat Garbutt with, after he was chased by four men who caught up to him and dragged him from under a house on Mango Street, unto Isla Road, tied his elbows with a belt and beat him to death.
Garbutt’s body was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital where it was pronounced dead on arrival.
