By BBN Staff: This week’s scheduled Senate meeting will proceed without the participation of the newly selected 13th Senator, Osmany Salas. The meeting will take place on Thursday as was previously scheduled. Opposition Leader John Briceno, however, has said the move is an act of bad faith on the part of the government since the meeting is being held the day before the commencement order for the appointment of the 13th senator takes effect.
The Senate will debate the recently tabled NGO Amendment Act but without representation from the NGO senator. Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Godwin Hulse had previously told the media that Salas cannot be formally installed until the amendment has been passed and assented to by the Governor General.
