Wednesday, August 05, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: The sound of gunfire erupted on Jane Usher Boulevard in Belize City this morning just before 11:00.
Two young men, identified as 22 year old Raheem Arnold of Curl Thompson Street and 18 year old Shemar Moore, were shot following an argument with another person standing on the street corner. We understand from a resident who was in the area that one of the shooting victims hit the assailant as he was passing, leading to a shouting and cursing match.
The assailant went home and returned with a .38 silver revolver which he used to shoot his attacker in the left pelvis. He reportedly ran out of bullets and went home to reload, and as the second victim was passing en route to his house he too was shot to the arms and legs.
Superintendent Hilberto Romero of Criminal Investigation Branch says police are seeking two persons. They continue to work to establish whether the incident was gang-related.
Both Arnold and Moore are stable in hospital tonight. The incident comes as Police held a meet and greet with area residents last week, ahead of a coordinated effort to settle internal rivalries that are “deep-seated” and at boiling point according to Police officials.
Commander Eastern Division (South) Senior Superintendent Chester Williams has vowed to bring the groups together in peace as recently happened in the Ghost Town area.
