Monday, June 22nd, 2015. Chrisbert Garcia Reporting: Heavy rains in the Toledo District over the course of Thursday night and Friday morning caused major flooding in the three villages of Blue Creek, Santa Elena and San Jose.
NEMO went into activation at 7:00 on Friday morning and have been working around the clock since then to relieve the families that were affected by the flood waters.
This morning when we spoke to the NEMO personnel in Punta Gorda, we were informed that some areas experienced flooding as high as 3 feet, causing damage to homes and farms.
After the waters withdrew, a preliminary assessment done by NEMO revealed that 23 families in Blue Creek Village, 5 families in San Jose Village and 3 families in Santa Elena Village were affected by the floods.
NEMO’s Keith Emmanuel, in an interview with Belize Media Group this morning, said: “All humanitarian aiding has been completed and affected families have been given one week of food rations and sanitarian kits and supplies. Crews are in the three villages today doing final damage assessments to infrastructure and farms.”
