Thursday, August 27th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: This afternoon a group of youths from Belize City attached to the programs of the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) and National Youth Cadet Service Corps completed a two-day workshop in poetry development.
Long the tool for the sensitive artists among us to express themselves, Arturo Quiroz, the studio coordinator for facilitators Street Poets, Incorporated, says the experience will help these young people tell of their personal experiences.
Quiroz explained that the workshop moved from analyzing successful poems to having participants write their own. He said that a “space” needed to be created for these kinds of expressions.
We spoke with a participant in the workshop, Wilder Bonilla, who says he learned a lot from the experience.
There are plans for continued interactions and exchanges between U.S.-based youth organizations and those in Belize.
