Friday, October 30, 2015. BMG: The Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) of the Belize Police Department has come under fire with allegations of political corruption that have been circulating since the beginning of this week. It is alleged that members of the GSU have been raiding homes of well-known People’s United Party (PUP) supporters in Orange Walk.
Those allegations went deeper when it was said that those raids were done at the command of Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega of the United Democratic Party (UDP), simply to intimidate these PUP families.
Commander of the GSU, Superintendent Mark Flowers, spoke to the media and said that a thorough investigation was underway by senior officers. Attempts were then made to contact Senior Superintendent Chester Williams and when he was finally reached, he replied, “no comment”.
