Friday, October 30th, 2015. BMG: A new multipurpose sports building was launched yesterday at the Marion Jones Stadium in Belize City, which will be funded by the government of Mexico as was agreed upon in 2012.
The Mexican Ambassador to Belize, Carlos Quesnel, said that this project will not only involve the design and construction of a multipurpose sports facility but will also entail the installation of lighting on the existing football field.
He thanked Minister of Education Patrick Faber and Minister of State in the Ministry of Sports Herman Longsworth for the kind gesture of allowing the facility to be named “Mexico” due to Belize’s appreciation for the Mexican Government’s support.
Longsworth, said that the facility will cater for volleyball and basketball primarily but will be accessible for hosting of other sporting competitions as well. He thanked the Mexican Government for partnering with Belize to make the project a reality.
