Saturday, November 21st, 2015. BMG: The first Kareem Clarke Memorial, organized by a group of local journalists, will be held this afternoon at the BTL Park from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm. in memory of the late slain reporter.
The event will feature an award ceremony for the winners of an essay competition, held earlier this month by the group. The topic of the essay was: What is the nature of politics in Belize? How can I change it?
The winners will be announced at the event and first, second and third prize winners will be presented with a laptop, a tablet and $500 in cash respectively. The first place winner will also read his or her essay publicly before the audience in attendance.
The event will also include entertainment from well-known artists including All God’s Sons, Chad Wade, Denise Castillo, Nello Playa, Positive Vibes and TR Shine. The final portion of the event entails a DJ tribute to Clarke.
The Kareem Clarke Memorial Fund, which was established in the wake of Clarke’s death, intends for the event to be held annually and proceeds from the fund-raiser will support the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s St. Joseph primary school feeding program and the Dara feeding program.
Clarke was killed in July and since then one minor has been charged for his death. Police indicated his murder was random and senseless.
