By Breaking Belize News Staff: Kenrick Longsworth, 31, has been found guilty of manslaughter and wounding his 4-year-old stepson, Zemark Teul, but acquitted of murder and the attempted wounding of another stepson, Markeem Teul. The ruling was handed down by Justice Derick Sylvester.

Longsworth admitted to hitting 3-year-old Mark Francisco Teul, who died from asphyxia due to injuries to his windpipe. However, Justice Sylvester concluded there was insufficient evidence to prove Longsworth’s intent to kill, resulting in a manslaughter conviction instead of murder.

Justice Sylvester based his ruling on testimonies from the children’s mother, police, a neighbor, and two doctors, as well as physical evidence of the injuries. While Longsworth claimed he was disciplining the children and accused their mother of causing the fatal injuries, the judge found Longsworth responsible for the abuse.

Longsworth has been in custody since January 20, 2020, and was represented by Attorney Andrew Bennett.
