Jules Vasquez calls out OC Franco for walking away from press; Doctors in San Ignacio threatened by gang members

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Residents in Santa Elena Town are gravely concerned about their safety following a series of robberies, shootings and the recent murder of a businessman.

On today’s session of 7News Belize’s The Morning Beef, media executive and journalist Jules Vasquez called out the Officer Commanding San Ignacio police OC Franco for walking away from the press at the scene.

“You are a senior police officer. The press is here just answer the people them. I was just asking him basic questions and he just walked away because he is protected by Chester Williams,” Jules said.

In addition, Jules says that the same OC was involved in a serious allegation sometime ago where he interceded to protect a businessman who had been lawless in the police station.

“The OC Franco interjected and said mek dah man go,” Jules shared.

Jules further said that when asked about it, the Commissioner of Police said that he wouldn’t crucify OC Franco for his actions.

“Running incompetence in law enforcement, incompetence in Santa Elena and the culmination of it is this event. Its one of the most terrifying events I have heard and I heard it first hand. On June 1, David Galindo was shot. He is a gang leader in Santa Elena. He died this weekend from the injuries. It’s another murder and it’s a very serious one because it has gang implications and that community is very scared of what will happen next,” Jules explained.

On the night of June 1, when Galindo was shot, members of his gang reportedly threatened the doctors and nurses at the San Ignacio Community Hospital.

The culprits reportedly told the doctors while in the trauma room that if Galindo died, the doctors and nurses would be killed.

Multiple doctors attested to being threatened and one of the gang members barged in and there were 13 people in the ward terrified.

“These men are terrorizing the emergency room and according to the doctors, the police dropped the man off at hospital and left because they are afraid,” Jules said.

These threats were reported to the Minister of Health and Wellness.

One of the men also hit the hospital’s door and broke the glass.

Thereafter, the same doctors that they had been threatening treated him for the injuries.

Jules also spoke about the businesses closing doors in Santa Elena due to the crime escalation.
