By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams and Commanders of the Western Region met with the San Ignacio and Santa Elena business community in San Ignacio.
During that meeting, the business community shared their concerns in light of recent armed robberies and the murder of a Santa Elena businessman.
COMPOL Williams explained that a land has been identified for a police station for Santa Elena. However, as the discussions continue for that, provisions are being made for the police to identify somewhere in Santa Elena Town for a police sub station.
A building will be identified in Santa Elena by OC Franco and will be used for policing in Santa Elena Town.
COMPOL Williams also admitted that he is aware that the police are under-resourced.
And, following Tuesday’s cabinet meeting, the Ministry of Tourism committed to providing 3 cycles and 1 vehicle for the San Ignacio Police formation.
In addition, the Commissioner committed to providing more police officers to enhance patrols in Santa Elena Town.
