By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Shanalee Smith of Stann Creek’s Holy Ghost RC of Dangriga was voted Most Valuable Player of the National Sports Council Girls Primary Schools Football Championship held on Thursday and Friday at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk Town.

Smith had a superb performance in the two-day tournament closing with a hat trick in the final in which Holy Ghost blanked Belize District’s Our Lady of Lourdes RC from Maskall 3-0 on Friday.

The Cayo District’s Santa Elena RC clinched third place with a 3-1 penalty-kick shootout win over Orange Walk’s Santa Cruz after regulation time and extra time ended in a scoreless draw.

In the First Round, Holy Ghost beat Corozal’s Church of Christ 3-0 with Smith scoring a goal. They then drew 0-0 with Santa Elena finishing the group round as number one seed and advancing to the semifinals

Holy Ghost then advanced to the final defeating Orange Walk’s Santa Cruz 3-2 in penalty kicks.

The National Sports Council Sports Council’s Primary Schools Football Championship was the final tournament for the 2023-24 school year organized by the National Spirts Council of Belize which also holds basketball, volleyball, softball, and athletics championships annually.
