By Breaking Belize News Staff: Erly Misael Garcia Duarte, a 42-year-old Honduran national, was convicted on Wednesday for illegal marijuana possession and illegal entry into Belize. Living in Lords Bank, Ladyville for almost three years, Duarte was caught with 14 grams of cannabis. He pleaded guilty and was fined $255.
During his court appearance, Duarte’s illegal status was revealed. He admitted to entering Belize in November 2021 without proper documentation and was fined an additional $1,005. Duarte claimed he paid $200 for a fake entry stamp and sought asylum without success.
Duarte faces deportation to Honduras either after serving his time or paying his fines, totaling $1,260, by Friday, the regular day for expatriation of Honduran nationals.
