National Amateur Interdistrict Championship 2024 features 2 games Saturday, seven Sunday

Two teams will be dropped this weekend

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) has made changes to the Round One return matches schedule of the National Amateur Interdistrict Championship (NAIC) though they still have two games slated for Saturday and seven for Sunday.

According to a FFB social media post, the two Saturday games will now feature Toledo’s Legends FC against Mid-South’s Garage FC at the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda at 7:30 pm and the Mid-South’s 501 Spartans against Stann Creek’s Griga Conquerors at the same time at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence.

Garage and Legends drew 1-1 in Game 1 while EZ Griga Conquerors pumped 501 Spartans 4-1 last week.

The games that were originally set for Saturday will now play on Sunday. Tut Bay will host Cayo’s 7 Miles at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex at 4:30 pm while the Santa Elena Royal United will face San Pedro Conquerors at 4:00 pm at the Norman Broaster Stadium.

TutBay and 7 Miles drew 1-1 last week while Conquerors routed Santa Elena 6-0.

The other games on Sunday will see Corozal’s Copper Bank try to finish off Toledo’s San Marcos at the Carolina Football Field at 3:30 pm. Copper Bank won the first game 1-0.

Stann Creek’s New Site HD Hustler will attempt to overcome a 2-1 deficit against defending champions Club Atletico of Belmopan at 4:00 pm at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga.

Orange Walk’s Mi Gente of Guinea Grass won 2-1 on the road week against San Pedro’s Terror Squad. Their return match on Sunday is slated for 3:00 pm at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk.

The Calcutta Bulls, who beat Yo Creek United 2-0 last week, will now host the Orange Walk side at 1:00 pm at the Calcutta Football Field in Calcutta.

The final will see Belmopan’s Napoles, with a 3-0 lead, face Belize City’s Caesar Ridge at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan at 7:00 pm.

Of the 18 teams, the top sixteen (the nine winners and the best six losing teams) will qualify to the second round.
