By Aaron Humes: After first mentioning it last week, then appearing to rule it out on Monday, a declaration of a State of Emergency has been made in certain parts of the Belize and Cayo Districts.
Earlier today, Tuesday, law enforcement authorities conducted operations in the St. Martins, Kelly Street, and Victoria Street neighborhoods of Belize City, which all saw recent shootings and murders. The State of Emergency also encompasses sections of Cotton Tree and Roaring Creek Village, where individuals suspected of being involved in gangs have been apprehended after the village police station was attacked early on Sunday morning.
The announcement was made by Commissioner of Police Chester Williams. The Commissioner, along with numerous police officers, actively participated in the operations carried out in the St. Martins area.
We’ll have more from the Commissioner in a subsequent story.
