By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A State of Emergency is in effect for Belize City and areas in the Cayo District following a surge in crime.
Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said that since the operations commenced in San Ignacio and Santa Elena, police have seized four guns and a number of ammunition.
“The police have recovered a number of firearms and ammunition within the Belize district and the Cayo area. I must say that since we started our operations in the San Ignacio, Santa Elena area, the team there has seized at least about four firearms and a number of ammunitions so it goes to show the work that the police has been doing in those areas to be able to crack down on the issue of crime,” Williams said.
In Belize City, police began operations on June 24 and have since detained wanted suspects for several crimes.
