Electricity generation surges by 31.4% in Belize

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Electricity generation in Belize experienced a substantial increase of 31.4% during the first quarter of 2024, rising from 61.9 thousand megawatt hours to 81.3 thousand megawatt hours.

This surge was attributed to higher rainfall levels observed in the early months of the year, boosting hydroelectric power production.

Additionally, water consumption saw a more moderate uptick, rising by 3.6% from 705.2 million gallons to 730.3 million gallons.

In the realm of infrastructure development, the ‘Construction’ industry also showed positive growth, expanding by 5.9% from $69.1 million in the first quarter of 2023 to $73.1 million in the first quarter of 2024.

These developments underscore ongoing economic activity in Belize.
