Belize to compete in 2024 Concacaf Girls’ U-15 Championship in League B in August in Trinidad and Tobago

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Concacaf announced on Tuesday that Belize will be competing in the fifth edition of the Concacaf Girls’ U-15 Championship, which will be played from August 5-11, 2024.

Belize will be participating in Group E in League B against Honduras, Cuba, and Barbados. Belize will open against Honduras at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 5. The second game will be against Cuba on Tuesday, August 6, at 3:00 pm. Belize will then face Barbados at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 8.

Football Federation of Belize (FFB) Technical Director Philip Marin said the Under-15 Belize Girls National Team (BGNT) has been training since first trials were held at the FFB Stadium in March and 18 girls have been selected. The BGNT, led by Head Coach Joseph Waight, will travel to Trinidad and Tobago next week Saturday, August 3.

Concacaf said 34 nations will be competing in the three-league tournament. League A will be hosted by Costa Rica, League B by Trinidad and Tobago, and League C by Aruba.

Concacaf said the number of teams per league was decided based on the Concacaf Women’s U-17 Rankings of March 2024 and the final number of participants.

All three leagues have a Group Stage that will be played from August 5-8. The semifinals and final position matches will be played on August 9. The three Finals that will determine the three champions will be played on Sunday, August 11, 2024.

In Leagues B and C, a domestic club from the host countries has been invited, in addition to the host country’s national team, so that all groups have the same number of participants.

In the fourth edition of the Concacaf Girls’ U-15 Championship held in 2022 in Tampa, Florida, 20 teams competed in two leagues. The United States won League A for the third consecutive time, and Nicaragua won League B.

League A: 8 highest-ranked national teams

Group A: United States, Haiti, Costa Rica, Jamaica

Group B: Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico, El Salvador

League B: 15 next best-ranked national teams and one local club

Group C: Trinidad & Tobago, Grenada, Curacao, Antigua & Barbuda

Group D: Trinidad & Tobago HP*, Guatemala, St. Kitts & Nevis, US Virgin Islands

Group E: Honduras, Cuba, Barbados, Belize

Group F: Bermuda, Dominican Republic, Cayman Islands, Suriname

League C: 11 national teams and one local club

Group G: Anguilla, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Aruba All Stars*, Guyana

Group H: Saint Lucia, Aruba, French Guiana, Martinique

Group I: Turks & Caicos Islands, Dominica, Bonaire, Guadeloupe
