Worldwide Christian Community express outrage by drag performance of the “Last Supper” during Paris Olympics opening ceremony

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Millions of people worldwide tuned into the opening ceremony for the 2024 Paris Olympics which included a fashion show that resembled a modern re-creation of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting of the Last Supper. The Last Supper refers to the final meal that Jesus Christ shared with his 12 apostles before he was crucified.

During the show, Jesus and the disciples were replaced by trans figures and this angered many christian leaders across the world, including Catholics and numerous other Christian groups. Many of these leaders including Bishops, Priests, Pastors and religious leaders have since taken to social media to express their disappointment about the display.

Bishop Emmanuel Gobillard, a spokesperson representing the Holy See for the 2024 Paris Olympics said that the depiction of the Last Supper left him “deeply hurt.”

“The fact that our religion should be mocked is usual and we are used to blasphemy in France, but the context isn’t the same,” he said.

Former Church of God overseer, Tim Hill also issued a statement joining with other Christian leaders saying that the mockery of the Last Supper was shocking and insulting to Christian people around the world. “I also pray for Christian athletes who are unashamed of their faith in Jesus Christ while allowing the Gospel light to shine at every opportunity as they compete.” Hill said.

The organizers of the Paris Olympics 2024 have since apologized to Catholics and other Christian groups for the anger that the use of the Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous The Last Supper painting during the Olympics opening ceremony on Friday night has caused.
