By Aaron Humes: A man was fatally shot in Cotton Tree Village early this morning. Police responded to reports of gunfire around 1:50 a.m. and discovered a Hispanic man lying face down in his yard with gunshot wounds to the head and torso.
The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Otoniel Perez Mateo, a Guatemalan national who worked as a bartender at Naomi’s.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Perez was asleep in his room when two Hispanic men entered his yard and knocked on his door. He opened the door, and a fight ensued, followed by two gunshots. The assailants then fled the scene on foot.
Police are currently investigating the incident.
