By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 51-year-old Belize City mother, Victoria Violet Claunch, has been released on bail after being arraigned on Wednesday on a charge of wounding her 14-year-old daughter. Claunch, a domestic worker of Fabers Road, appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #6, where she pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The incident occurred on September 25, 2024, when Claunch allegedly assaulted her daughter, leaving the teenager with multiple injuries, including a bite mark on her right shoulder, a cut on her left thumb, and swelling on both hands. According to the child’s statement, the altercation began when her mother attempted to prevent her from leaving the house to go to her father’s residence.
During the court proceedings, the prosecutor raised no objections to bail but requested conditions be attached. The Senior Magistrate granted Claunch bail in the sum of $1,500 with the condition that she must not contact her daughter or come within 100 yards of her. Additionally, Claunch must report to Racoon Street Police Station every Friday, starting October 4, 2024. Any changes in visitation orders from the Family Court must be reported to avoid violating bail conditions.
The 14-year-old is now in the care of her father, a 37-year-old police constable, following the Department’s intervention. Claunch’s next court date is set for December 2, 2024.
