By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A broad area of low pressure over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico is showing signs of organization, with the potential to develop into a tropical depression or storm later today or Sunday.
Weather experts say the system is expected to move slowly eastward and then accelerate across the central and eastern Gulf of Mexico early next week, where further strengthening is likely.
Regardless of development, heavy rainfall is anticipated across parts of Mexico in the coming days, with much of Florida also expected to experience significant rain from late this weekend through mid-next week.
This system has a 90% chance of formation through the next 7 days.
Meanwhile, a tropical wave is forecast to move off the west coast of Africa on Monday or Tuesday.
Some development of this system is possible as it travels westward or west-northwestward across the eastern tropical Atlantic.
