By BBN Staff: The global coalition against corruption, Transparency International, posted a video to its social media page yesterday listing some world leaders and problems of nepotism.
On the top of the list is President-Elect of the United States of America, Donald Trump who officially assumes office today.
Trump recently appointed his son-in-law Jared Kushner as a senior advisor to the White House while he and Ivanka Trump continue to remain connected to the family’s billion dollar businesses.
The post says “in other countries this would be considered nepotism.”
Transparency International also lists some other world leaders in highly corrupt countries where nepotism is a problem.
Among the list is Angola’s president, who appointed his daughter to run a state-owned oil company. She is said to be the richest woman in Africa.
Nicaragua’s president who appointed his wife to be his Vice President is also listed along with the President of Equatorial Guinea, who has been in power for 37 years and has appointed his son as his Vice President. His son faces a trial in France for corruption charges. He is accused of stealing millions from state funds.
In Hungary, the Prime Minister’s son in law has won many state contracts worth millions of dollars.
In Belize, one of the Prime Minister’s son leads the national telecommunications company, Belize Telemedia Limited and his other son was named the Music ambassador of the country after being deported from the United States of America in connection with a shooting in a club. His ex wife also benefits as she is a UN ambassador.
Ministers in his cabinet are not excluded from problems of nepotism as his former minister of National Security’s sister was a CEO on leave with salary and perks for a year. His former minister of Natural Resources’ nephew was land commissioner and the former government-official’s son has been taken to court by the Government for corruption in land deals while his father was the minister.
